MINING SITE GYM FITOUT CASE STUDY PAPUA NEW GUINEA (PORGERA, ENGA PROVINCE)

STAGE 1:
SITE VISIT, ASSESSMENT & EQUIPMENT REPAIRS

We completed two full commercial gym fitouts for a remote mining operation in Porgera, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea. This project involved a staged delivery including on-site assessment, equipment servicing, gym design, international logistics and a full FIFO installation.

The goal was to deliver durable, high-performance gym facilities to support a FIFO workforce operating in a remote mining environment.

  • Location: Porgera, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea
  • Facilities: 2 gym sites (Suyan + Alapis)
  • Suyan Gym: Approx. 200sqm
  • Alapis Gym: Approx. 500sqm
  • Scope: Design, servicing, equipment supply, logistics and installation

STAGE 2: GYM DESIGN & LAYOUT PLANNING

Following the site assessment, we developed detailed gym layouts for both facilities.

Each layout was optimised for:

  • Commercial use
  • FIFO workforce training needs
  • Space efficiency and flow
  • Equipment durability in remote conditions

The design ensured both gyms could operate efficiently with a mix of strength, cardio and functional training zones.

STAGE 3: EQUIPMENT PRODUCTION & LOGISTICS

All equipment was produced and coordinated through our supply network, with a standard lead time of approximately 10–12 weeks.

We managed the full logistics process, including:

  • Equipment sourcing
  • International freight
  • Delivery coordination to a remote mining site

This stage required precise planning to ensure all equipment arrived on site ready for installation.

STAGE 4 & 5: DELIVERY, MOBILISATION & FIFO INSTALL

Once equipment arrived on site, we mobilised our team and completed a full FIFO installation.

Both gyms were fully fitted out over the course of 7 days, with support from on-site labour provided by the client.

Scope included:

  • Equipment installation
  • Gym layout execution
  • Final setup and positioning
  • Functional readiness of both facilities

FINAL RESULT

The result was two fully operational commercial gyms designed specifically for a remote mining environment.

  • Suyan Gym (200sqm): Compact, efficient training space
  • Alapis Gym (500sqm): Larger, fully equipped facility

Both gyms now provide reliable, high-quality training environments for FIFO workers on site.

WORKING IN A REMOTE FIFO ENVIRONMENT

Delivering this project provided first-hand insight into the demands of FIFO operations.

Working at altitude and in a remote location presented logistical and physical challenges, requiring adaptability, problem-solving and precise execution.
